This is a training course to help people improve their disability awareness. A lot of people with disability regularly experience discrimination and exclusion in many areas of their lives. This course will help you understand more about disability, the barriers that people with disability experience and how these might be overcome.

The course has four modules with key topics that will help you understand more about disability and how to be more inclusive of people with disability. Each module has a quiz at the end so you can check what you have learned. The four modules are:

Module 1: What is disability?

What do you think of when you think about disability? In this module you will learn about what disability is and how it has been thought about throughout history. You will also learn more about disability in Australia.

Module 2: Let’s talk about disability

This module is all about how we talk about disability and how we communicate with people with disability. You’ll also learn some facts about disability to counter some common myths and stereotypes that negatively impact people with disability.

Module 3: Legislation and policy

People with disability commonly experience discrimination and stigma in their lives. In this module you will learn about the Australian legislation and policies designed to prevent this. This module also has a section on the rights and responsibilities that people with disability have about disclosing their disability.

Module 4: Disability in the community

This module dives deeper into what discrimination looks like in areas such as education, employment, access and justice, and ways to build a more inclusive community for all people.
