The future of employment services in Australia: a discussion paper

Overview

This discussion paper is part of a federal government review of employment services, including the Job Network and Disability Employment Network. The paper is based on consultations with employment service providers, employer groups, welfare organisations and state and federal MPs under the review of employment services, and will be used as the basis for further consultation. Features of the new system outlined in the paper include:

  • Providing every job seeker with their own Employment Pathway Plan with services, training and work experience to help secure employment;
  • Retaining and improving Work for the Dole and Green Corps as part of Work Experience options;
  • Stronger links to training with $880 million for an extra 238,000 training places for job seekers;
  • Greater emphasis on a ‘work culture’ via a ‘No Show, No Pay’ rule and increasing work experience places by 50 percent; and,
  • Reducing red tape for employment service providers allowing them to spend more time with job seekers.
