State of the Disability Sector Report 2024

Overview

Based on 397 responses from disability services, the report, found that most providers, despite challenging circumstances, remain resilient and are determined to thrive. 

This is despite an operating environment that continues to create significant challenges for the sector. Financial viability is an issue for many providers, with concerns that this will cause widespread disruption to services to people with disability

The report looks at the cost to the system of high quality providers leaving the market, and considers the way forward to secure to secure the future for disability support services.

These findings support ongoing calls from the sector to prioritise reforms recommended by the NDIS Review, like independent pricing, to support productivity and enable them to continue providing high-quality care. 

The report outlines what disability service providers require from government, including: 

  • renewed relationships with stakeholders
  • fair and independent pricing
  • a clear direction and action: a detailed, sequenced roadmap.
  • support for sector transformation and new ways of working
  • bold workforce initiatives
  • continue with regulatory reform: setting high standards that apply to all providers.
  • prioritise employment and social procurement
  • consultation with stakeholders at every opportunity.
