Identifying accessible and inclusive employers

Overview

This guide provides advice for people with disability on how to find accessible and inclusive employers and workplaces by looking for things like physical accessibility, supportive values, inclusive hiring practices and disability-friendly policies.

It can be difficult to know where to start when looking for an employer that is both accessible and inclusive. Spending some time researching employers when you begin your job search can be helpful. Here are indicators that an employer provides an accessible and inclusive workplace.

These include:

  • the physical accessibility and location of the organisation
  • their organisational values
  • the employment of other people with disability
  • whether they have a Disability Action Plan or other form of Accessibility and Inclusion Plan
  • the nature of the recruitment process
  • the presence of a Disability Employee Network.

This guide is available in PDF, Word, Easy Read, and the webpage includes an audio version.
