TiCP scoping review

Overview

This scoping review of Trauma-Informed Care and Practice (TiCP) resources was conducted to guide the development of the next generation of resources tailored to the community-managed organisations (CMO) sector in New South Wales. Trauma-informed care and practice is an approach to delivering services. Trauma informed organisations recognise and acknowledge trauma and its prevalence and can demonstrate awareness and sensitivity to its dynamics

By integrating the latest evidence, sector insights, and practice wisdom, the review identifies which elements of existing resources continue to offer value and relevance, ensuring future resources remain responsive to the evolving needs of CMOs.

The Trauma-Informed Care and Practice Organisational Toolkit (TICPOT), along with other resources, continues to serve the sector well. However, as services increasingly adopt their own frameworks and practice guides, new challenges have emerged, particularly around consolidating resources, advocating for trauma-informed change and generating consistent measures of implementation across organisations and broader systems.

Future resource development should be undertaken in collaboration with the sector and this review offers a set of strategic recommendations to support and inform that process. The findings underscore the importance of ongoing investment in resource development that reflects the distinct context of the Mental Health CMO sector in NSW.

Key recommendations

  • Develop contemporary, accessible and localised TICP resources for the CMO sector.
  • Embed practical measures and evaluation tools into TICP resources.
  • Resources should support sustainable organisational level change across all system levels.
