Decisions and direction: the crucial role of career exploration
Overview
In senior secondary school young people can feel pressured to choose a career. But they often lack the self-awareness or knowledge of the world to make confident and appropriate decisions. This guide shows how students can be supported by starting the process of career exploration early and setting career directions rather than fixing goals.
The guide identifies strategies for supporting career exploration in schools: start early; repeat often; integrate exploration of self and opportunity; promote self-construction; and support appropriate consultation.
