NSW disability inclusion volunteering guidelines
Overview
This guide is a flexible, adaptable tool designed to assist business, government, and community groups to be more disability confident and boost the participation of people with disability in volunteering roles. It provides a wide range of ideas on how organisations can improve volunteering for people with disability, based on best practice principles including accessibility, creating supportive relationships, ongoing improvement, clear communication, team building, reflection, and authentic voice of people with disability.
The guide is based on three pillars.
- Recruitment of people with disability to increase their participation across all parts of the volunteering community by improving accessibility and inclusive practices.
- Retention of people with disability as volunteers by providing a range of suitable, meaningful, and diverse roles and experiences that are informed by people with disability.
- Recognition of people with disability who volunteer by developing and implementing inclusive recognition programs that acknowledge and celebrate the contributions of all volunteers in a variety of ways.
