Supporting your young person's career development

This presentation aims to equip parents and carers with practical strategies, resources, and insights to actively support young people with disability in navigating their career pathways. Developed as part of the Building Ability Through Career Management (BACM) initiative, the resource addresses the critical role families play as career development allies in fostering self-advocacy, confidence, and long-term employability. 

The resource highlights that modern career security relies on adaptability, transferable skills, and lifelong employability rather than traditional, linear job roles. It identifies key structural and personal factors influencing outcomes for youth with disability, including the critical timing of disability disclosure, the importance of developing disability-specific skills, and the need to align personal values and strengths with future labour market opportunities. Additionally, it underscores that early engagement with family networks significantly enhances employment outcomes.
